Armenia's ruling party confirms tensions between its two members

Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party issued an official statement on Wednesday in response to media inquiries regarding tensions between two of its senior members, National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan and MP Hayk Sargsyan.

According to the party, in April 2025 the Civil Contract Board launched disciplinary proceedings against Hayk Sargsyan based on a formal complaint submitted by Alen Simonyan. Following the inquiry, Sargsyan was issued a severe reprimand.

Prior to that vote, Hayk Sargsyan had himself filed a request to launch disciplinary proceedings against Simonyan. The party’s Oversight Commission twice summoned Sargsyan for clarifications regarding his complaint. However, the MP was unable to appear as he was outside Armenia at the time.

The Oversight Commission ultimately found no grounds to take disciplinary action against Alen Simonyan.

The statement also reminded party members that, under the Civil Contract Charter, all members are obliged to show respect toward fellow participants in discussions. The party warned that violations of this principle may result in disciplinary action.
